    Product Overview

Oxidized starch is a starch derivative obtained by chemical oxidation. White or off-white powder with good fluidity. Oxidized starch is soluble in water, forming a viscous solution. It is compatible with many food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical ingredients without significant interactions or adverse effects.

Oxidized starches are chemically modified starches with enhanced properties and functionalities. They can be divided into two major types - esterified oxidized starches and aldehydic oxidized starches. The esterified ones are modified by introducing ester groups like phosphorylated starch (POLOX), succinylated starch (SUCCEM), and acetylated starch (ACESTA). The aldehydic oxidized starches have aldehyde groups introduced instead, such as hydroxypropylated starch (HYSTAR, MIRACLE) and carboxymethylated starch (PRIMAFLO, PRIMASOL). There are also some other specialty oxidized starches like dodecenyl succinic anhydride starch (DSS) which don't belong to the two major categories. The chemical modification allows oxidized starches to have altered solubility, viscosity, stability and acid/alkali tolerance.

    Specifications

The main application of Oxidized Starch
    • Oxidized starch in food processing is utilized as a thickener, stabilizer, and gelling agent, playing a crucial role in the production of jellies, sauces, salad dressings, meat products, seasonings, and baked goods to enhance viscosity, consistency, and overall product quality.
    • Oxidized starch in pharmaceutical industry is employed as a capsule filler, coating agent, emulsion stabilizer, and suspending agent for oral liquids, contributing to the improved mouthfeel and stability of medications.
    • Oxidized starch in cosmetics and personal care items like lotions, facial masks, shampoos, and shower gels acts as a thickener, viscosity enhancer, and emulsifier.
    • Oxidized starch in pulp and paper industry acts as a thickener and surface binder, aiding in enhancing paper strength and smoothness.
    • Oxidized starch in packaging materials functions as an adhesive, crucial for the production of paperboards, cardboard boxes, and paper bags.
